On Friday night, Tom and I went out to dinner, and he ordered gumbo. It was so delicious, I immediately wanted to try my hand at cooking it, and so yesterday afternoon, I gathered up all the ingredients (including some parsley from our garden), put them into the slow cooker, and let them simmer. Ours was pretty bland compared to the one from Friday's restaurant, but it wasn't too bad for a first go. Also, the recipe called for okra, which I'd never cooked before. Actually, as Tom and I were looking for it in the grocery store, we were both keeping our eyes open for some kind of squash look alike, when in reality (as many of you probably already know) okra is more like a seedpod.
At any rate, there is plenty of gumbo for dinner tomorrow night, which is good since Tuesdays are our long days.
Today, I also took care of a nagging task--dusty bookshelves. LB helped me for a little bit, knocking over stacks of books and pretending to read 400-page novels. When she got bored with those activities, she had me blow on her pinwheels and feed fake porridge to her stuffed
animals. Needless to say, my dusting was often interrupted, but I didn't mind. I was happy to have a day at home with my little friend.

And here she is, having a final little play before bedtime.
