Day Sixty-Three: Mishmash

I usually like to have a unifying, albeit sometimes flimsy, theme for each entry (you don't get this far into a Ph.D. in English without learning a bit about organization and thesis statements), but today I was hard pressed to think of a way to tie my pictures together. Maybe "Work on Sunday"?

This afternoon I went into Pasadena to do some diss work with my dear friend and colleague, Sheila, who lives in Northern California but is staying down south with her sister. Her sister has this little outdoor sanctuary, complete with a water fountain and some blooming jasmine, overall a very refreshing setting for writing. My pictures don't do its prettiness justice. I think after I've finished up with this grad school business, I'd like to learn more about photography. Maybe take a class. Yes, as soon as I get out of school, I'll apparently try to get right back in.

I'm glad I got away to write with Sheila. We always work well together--I think we create a nice balance of work, socializing, snack-time, and coffee breaks. And also I'm a very nomadic writer (as I may have already said in this blog), so I like to find new spots for writing, like my friend's sister's backyard. I think a continual change of environment stimulates the brain and sparks new ideas. And I'm so so desperate to get this latest chapter done. It's 44 pages at the moment and so close to being finished--maybe another 10 - 15 pages. Once I finish this chapter, I will be about halfway done with the whole project!

I returned from Sheila's at about 4 PM, and the Lovejoy-Fordham Alliance went on its weekly walk. When we came back, LB had dinner, and then I gave the possum her bath, which, Tom documented so that all of her fans could see what she got up to today.

Her face is covered in a lovely combination of yogurt, snot, and sunscreen. Tom's mom is right, she definitely seems to have my complexion. She's turning all golden from being in the sun.
