One happy surprise of today was that the dissertation writing came along fairly smoothly, instead of the usual plodding along. I'm planning on writing 2 1/2 pages everyday for the rest of March, which means I'll finish the chapter by the end of the month. I'll take the first week of April to edit it and then send it on it's merry way. Once I finish this chapter, however, I'll get into the last two chapters for which I have actually no research. So April will mostly be dedicated to research, and hopefully by May I'll be back into the writing. Everyday just brings me a wee bit closer to the end.
But the happier surprise today was this beautiful collection of poetry for children edited by Julie Andrews. Lilybeth and I were out on the lawn taking clothes off the line when a delivery van pulled up with a box for Lilybeth from her Auntie Sheila and Uncle Mike. It's such a gorgeous book with some of my very favorite poets like Emily Dickinson and Langston Hughes that I'll definitely be enjoying it too! I was so touched by the gift; I really do have the most wonderful friends!
When the book arrived, however, Lilybeth was not interested in hearing a poem at all but was much more focused on taking every single clothespin out of the red bucket so Mama could put them back. She was so intent on this work that when I tried to play a game of peek-a-boo with her, she dropped her little lip and started to cry until I left her alone. Do not disturb her when she's busy!
Her hair, in this picture, is in serious need of a barrette.
she sounds like she has Tom's temperament.
