We've had some beautiful weather in SoCal these last couple of days: in the high 80's on Wednesday and in the mid-90's today. Such weather definitely means it is time to break out the shorts and the sandals . . .
and the garden hose . . .

and the soccer ball.

Today, I touched bases with the Human Resources Office at Delta College. My interview is on Monday, and I fly out on Sunday. I casually asked the woman I was talking to what the weather was like and she said "In the 40's." I tried to sound enthusiastic when I replied, "I guess I better pack my winter coat." Brrrrr! Once again, it is hard to think of leaving sunny SoCal for snowy Michigan! Maybe this is why I seem to be having such trouble prepping for the interview's teaching demo?
And also today, the Lovejoy-Fordham Alliance was set back nearly $1,000 when I purchased one of these:

My academic regalia! Apparently, the UC system's regalia looks like the dark blue one that the man on the end is wearing. You can also rent the regalia for the commencement ceremony (obviously the cheaper option); Tom said it was up to me whether I wanted to buy or rent. And after a bit of back and forth with myself, I decided that after the seven years of grad school plus the four years of undergraduate study I went through to get my Ph.D. I wanted the silly looking thing hanging in my closet (also, the rented regalia looked much cheaper than the real thing). So look out for pictures of me wearing the gown, cap, and hood in mid-June.
Thinking that this is my last quarter of school makes me giddy.
You are so cute Helen! I love this photo of you!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you got your regalia! Plus, when you are a professor, you will need it to wear at every graduation you attend, so I think it was a wise purchase!
LB is SOOO cute in these photos! I can't wait to see you guys at the reunion and for her and Alexandra to play together!
Aaahhh, thanks Hope! I'm looking forward to the reunion as well. I can't wait to see how big your beautiful Alexandra has gotten and to see our two girls toddling about together!
