Just Chillin' in the Pacific Northwest

I cannot believe it is already Wednesday, which unfortunately means we only have 1 1/2 days left at Gramme's house. G, LB, John, and I spent our Tuesday in Portland, where, after returning the rental car, we had lunch at Mother's Bar and Bistro. It was a great little place with some lovely chai teas

and pretty decor (note the chandelier).

My mom was very excited to pass by Portland's famous Voodoo Donuts (home of the maple bar with bacon). We didn't indulge in any of the sugary treats, especially after seeing the big cluster of people waiting outside.

Instead, we walked over to Powell's Books, the largest independent used and new bookstore in the world. Here we are trudging through the rain.

Back at Gramme's in WA, LB helped her G.G. plant some pine trees before heading inside for the evening and calling it a day.

And today we just spent at Gramme's house. I made some slow, painful progress on my dissertation and also submitted an application to Portland Community College. I had already been planning on applying to this job this week; it was just a sweet coincidence that we were also in the Rose City (as P is nicknamed) yesterday. I would love, love, love to live in Portland, so wish me some luck on my application!
I felt like it was generally a productive working day, although I was continually interrupted by a young lady who would toddle into the bedroom every 10-15 minutes, would smile shyly at me and whisper "Hi, Mama," and then announce much more boldly, "No work!" This meant it was time for me to get off the computer and play with her. You can't argue with the boss, and in the afternoon I finally gave up and LB, John, and I went for a leisurely walk to the alpaca farm down the road.

Afterward, I made LB dinner from some things I scrounged up from Gramme's cupboard and freezer: rice, peas & carrots, and Vienna sausages.
I'll be sad when the visit is over, but I will be happy to return to Tom. I'm sure he's also missing this little happy face . . .
