Day 207: The Reading Rainbow

Miss LB is fully into the books now. When she wants to hear a story, she carries the book over to Mama and sits down patiently, waiting for it to begin. The two most popular choices lately seem to be the animal sounds book, shown above, and the little board book below about body parts. I think she likes these so much because they're easily made interactive, and she knows some of the answers when I ask her about the pictures. Her little face beams when we get to the page featuring the dog, and she proudly announces "Woof, woof." And the cat? "'eow, 'eow." Those seem to be the only two she knows, but when I ask her what the other animals say, she makes this funny little clicking noise with her tongue, so I think she gets points for trying. And, to go off on a little tangent, on Sunday afternoon she saw a lion on TV, and she said "'eow, 'eow." Tom and I were quite the proud parents.

She knows nearly all the body parts--she doesn't seem to know knee, elbow, or back yet--and she points to them on her body when we come to them in her other book. Her favorite body part seems to be the tongue, because when we stick our tongues out, she tries to get mine before I put it away. At the end of the book, the babies are supposed to point to themselves. I ask her where Lilybeth is, and she covers up her face with her hands and peeks out at me. It's very darling!

This is the latest book she's acquired. It's about a mouse trying to find its dragon. You've gotta love how random kids' books are.
Here are a few park shots from this afternoon. Grandpa Lovejoy gave her this little sun dress for Christmas. Cute, right?
