Yes, we do have a bit of baby overload with all these pictures of LB, but today she did so many things that I want to make note of. In the picture above, she's enjoying her first teething biscuit (or rusk, as I believe the Aussies call them). I was a bit apprehensive about giving her the biscuits (I was contemplating making my own) because I read in one of my baby food cookbooks that some rusks can have as much sugar as a donut! Fortunately, these--they're the Earth's Best brand--only have 3g, which is actually less than some of her jars of baby food. I bought the biscuits last night but wasn't going to give her one until maybe next week. This morning, however, she was gnawing away at this little cardboard box I gave her to put her toys in, so I decided she was ready. She did enjoy it. She gummed away about half of it and then dropped it on the floor. She didn't cry or look around for it after she dropped it, so I took that as a sign that she'd finished with it.
But after the teething biscuit, she went on to eat a huge breakfast. She ate up a big bowl of oatmeal with prunes and was still fussing afterwards, so I mashed up half a banana with a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt. She quickly ate that up and was looking around for more, but I made the executive decision that she had had enough, so we went outside, and she quickly forgot about the food. Throughout all her meals today, she was making the "more" sign. Very very awesome. Though I do wonder if she thinks the "more" sign means "food."
Our other little milestone was that Tom lowered her crib. The other day, she pulled herself up on the bar, trying to look over the side. I had put her in the crib, since this is the safest place in the house for her to be alone, and went to do something in another room. As you can imagine, when I came back to find her in said position, my heart leaped into my throat. I'm sure she doesn't have the strength yet to pull herself all the way over, but just to be safe, we lowered the mattress all the way to the very last rung. Here she is clearly trying to test the strength of the slats, looking for a loose one.
I thought the bed was so deep that she might be a bit frightened to sleep in it, but she had a 2 hour nap at midday and then went straight to sleep at bedtime (after she gave out her usual squawk of protest--this kid does not go quietly).
Okay, just two more pics to share. One--since the Olympics are on at the moment--of her wearing her Vancouver 2010 bib from Auntie Heidi. It features the mascots of the current games.
And finally a picture of my wee little saint.
