Day Sixteen: Finger Foods

Since LB turned 8 months on Saturday, I've decided to introduce her to finger foods. Taking some advice from one of my trusty baby guides*, I steamed some cubes of one of her favorite foods, sweet potato, until they were soft enough to melt in the mouth, cut them up into a few little pieces and then offered them on her highchair tray. As you can see from the size of the pieces, I was terrified that she was going to choke on one of them! While she did pick up the pieces, she didn't eat any of them but instead mashed them all up together. I'm sure it will take a few tries before they actually get into her mouth. But I also think that I need to offer her bigger pieces, so to get her used to eating bigger chunks of food, I cut up some of the sweet potato cubes and mixed them in with the puree. She ate the larger chunks up just fine this way, so maybe later this week I'll offer some larger pieces as finger food. Perhaps she'll have an easier time getting them to her mouth.

I also just want to mark today as the first time my daughter snapped at me! While I was feeding her dinner, I offered her a spoon with food on it to feed herself, and instead of putting the food in her mouth as she usually does, she began to wipe it off on her bib (not sure if this was on purpose or not). I started to take the spoon back, and she let out a loud squeal and had this angry look on her face. "Lilybeth! That is not how you talk to your mother!" She's such a little miss sometimes!

Finally, since my workstation was dismantled in the creation of LB's play area, I set up shop in the kitchen during her naps. I actually liked; it was very cozy with my cup of coffee and the rain outside.

*Just a little side note, whenever I mention reading something in a baby book to my grandmother, she sarcastically says, "I managed to raise six kids, and I didn't even have a baby book. Can you believe that!?!" Point taken, but a little research never hurt anyone.
