Day 152: Rabbit Show

Today, LB and I went to a rabbit show. The Lovejoy family has a history of raising rabbits and of showing them, and Grandpa Lovejoy is a rabbit judge. When we arrived at the show, he was busy at work. When I was younger, I used to clerk for him, writing down his comments about each rabbit and making note of their place (1st, 2nd, and so on).

Here was his judging schedule for the day. He even judged best in show! Go Grandpa!
He also judged the Dutch rabbits, which are my favorite rabbit breed. When I was little, I had one named Checkers. The line down the middle of their backs is meant to be straight (as it is on the rabbit in the picture below), but Checkers's line was very squiggly. I remember entering him in a rabbit show where he came in something like 8th place out of 8 rabbits. I was still proud of him.

Here's LB watching Grandpa. Everyone kept asking when she was going to get her own rabbits!

And a view of the whole scene.
This is Maria, one of Grandpa's friends. She was so sweet; she let LB pet her rabbit, even though LB grabbed its poor little face.
And, since she knew LB would be stopping by today, she brought her all these beautiful, old wooden Playskool puzzles. It was so thoughtful. Maria said she wanted to give them to someone who would play with them and not try to sell them, so she gave them to LB. I put them up in the cupboard until the possum gets a bit older.
