Day 141: Ban the Bottle!

I had decided that when we returned from Australia I was going to wean LB from the bottle. She usually only has one juice bottle a day, but besides breast milk, this is all the liquid she gets. Now that the hot, hot summer is approaching, I want to make sure she's getting plenty of water (and not sucking it out of a rubber nipple). I tried giving her a sippy cup of water this past weekend, and while she figured out how to take a drink, she kept spitting it back out. Tom and I think it probably came out too fast and she didn't know what to do with it. Today I gave her a sippy cup that is supposed be a transition between a regular sippy cup and a bottle. It has this funny shaped nipple. She had no trouble or complaints about getting the juice out, but I feel like the cup is no good because it would just be another nipple to wean her from.

However, as luck would have it, LB received a birthday present yesterday from our friends Paul and Michelle, and it included this fantastic little Winnie the Pooh straw cup. I put a bit of water in it for her this afternoon, thinking she could play around with it and get used to the feel of it, and in a manner of seconds she had figured out how to suck the water out. As far as I could tell, she only took a couple of sips and was done with it, but hey, it's a start!
