In the fall, I'll be teaching three classes, which will make it difficult for G, who still works full time herself, to come and watch LB whenever we need her. It will also make it pretty damn impossible for me to work on my dissertation, but that's another story! So, to account for the changing schedule, Tom and I are hoping to find a daycare 1 - 2 days a week. Today, LB and I visited KinderCare, which has a chain of daycares, including one about five minutes from our place. When I called the corporate center to schedule the tour, the woman on the phone told me that they do take kids part time, but when I showed up, the center director said they were currently only taking kids full time but that the corporate center wouldn't know that. What a pain! But I still had a look around the facilities, and they seemed nice enough: the babies had their own little section, which consisted of two rooms--one for eating and playing and another with their cribs. The place could accommodate eight babies, and each had his/her own crib, which I thought was a nice touch. There were two women in charge of the babies, so a one-to-four ratio. But Tom and I don't want her to go full time, so ultimately it was a no go.
I do have another tour next Thursday. This place charges by the hour, which I believe (and hope) means it will be more flexible with schedules.
When we got back from the tour today, LB had an afternoon nap from 4:30 - 5. She usually doesn't sleep that late nor have an afternoon nap, and when she woke up she was grumpy! I suspect she was feeling groggy. There was no pleasing her. Finally I let her veg on the couch and watch The Wiggles, and eventually she was up for a play in the park.
