You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'

Another Saturday, another job application submitted. This time to Cerritos College, another Southern California school. I'm going to put the job applications on the back burner for the next couple of weeks so that I can finish up this chapter. But there are a couple of CA schools I want to apply to and the application procedures seem easy enough, so I feel obligated to get them in.

In other job related news, I heard back from Delta College . . . and . . . they want me to visit the school for a second interview! I can't believe it! I thought I had bombed the interview, especially considering how fierce the job market is at the moment. I have to admit though that I'm a bit unsure about what to do; while Delta seems like a great school to work for, I'm in no hurry to pack up for Michigan. I really just applied for the job on a whim.

I need to call the human resources office tomorrow morning to get all the details on the interview. If the timing is too inconvenient or if they don't pay for my travel, I may just not go and tell them "Thanks, but no thanks." But then again, maybe I will still go. The job market is really miserable, a fact that was highlighted for me last night when we had dinner with our friends Will and Leona. Leona is a professor at Chaffey College, and she said her school won't be hiring again for at least two years. MSJC, the college where I teach part-time, also has a hiring freeze at the moment. Leona said she knows twenty other people who applied for that position at Cerritos College, and I can probably think of another ten. All of these SoCal schools are getting bombarded with applications from people with California degrees who want to stay in California, so maybe going out of state for a job is more feasible; my degree will be more novel. And as Tom logically pointed out, we shouldn't rule out Michigan since we've never actually been there.

But it was definitely hard to think about leaving SoCal yesterday afternoon when it was the middle of February, sunny, and warm. LB and I headed over to the park where the World Movement dance festival was taking place. We saw some Japanese taiko drummers,
a hip-hop dance trope, and some Mexican folk dancers.
LB loved watching the women, and she tried her best to dance along with them. There were lots of other performers, but we had to sneak off for our dinner date.
