Small Town 4th

We spent our first Pacific-Northwest 4th of July in Forks, WA. Forks is famous for being the home of some very popular fictional characters, Twilight's Edward and Bella. It's also famous for being one of the rainiest places in the US (which is why Meyer chose it as the location for her vampire series). As you can see from the photos, it was even overcast and chilly on Independence Day.

Forks is about an hour west of Port Angeles, and we headed there for the small-town parade which featured Miss Immy, LB's new best friend, who was marching in the Kiddies' Parade. Here's LB looking very grown up and lovely in a dress she got from her Aussie aunties and uncles:
The local orchestra or "fork-chestra" as it's called in Forks:
Members of a local Native American tribe in their beautifully crafted canoe:
Local teens riding lawnmowers:
The Twilight mobile:
A backward map of America:
One of three logger trucks:
LB loved cheering for the parade participants,
except for when she was enjoying a holiday treat like a popsicle:
Finally, the photo below is from earlier in the day. LB was about to eat a 4th-themed donut for breakfast, but I told her that we needed to take a smiling picture before she could eat it. She's trying very hard to smile here, but really she's just thinking about eating her donut:
