Day Two: Sleepy Baby . . . Go Night-Night

So today we have LB in her crib with one of her favorite stuffed animals, Wooly Cat, so beloved that he even has his own theme song ("Hey, who's that cat!? It's Wooly Cat! I said, Mama who's that cat! It's Wooly Cat! It's Wooly Cat, our friend!" So . . . it's not the best theme song, but part of being a parent is making up silly songs for your kids, right?) He was handmade by one of our favorite people in the world, Auntie Franceil.

I selected this picture because it seems we are once again having sleep issues in the Lovejoy-Fordham home. Not five minutes ago, I put a very very drowsy baby down in her crib, and now, at this very moment, I can hear her fussing in the bedroom. You'd think a baby who napped for a total of 35 minutes today would be out cold, but at this point she is probably overtired, wired, and so really just can't go to sleep.

But before this last week, we had quite a decent little sleep schedule going on. Lilybeth would go to bed between 6 and 7 PM, wake up for two feeds during the night (usually around 11 PM and 2 AM), and then sleep until 5:30 AM. Then she'd have a very long mid-morning nap, usually at least two hours, but sometimes even up to three hours. Finally, she'd have a short nap in the afternoon and then to bed. As you can guess, I loved that mid-morning nap. A big chunk of time for some dissertating!

For about a week now, however, it seems Lilybeth is sleeping more at night (which, is awesome, knock on wood) but less during the day. For example, last night, she went to bed at about 6:30 PM, woke up at 3:30 AM for a drink and a rock, was back to sleep by 4:30 and woke up for the day at 7. However, her mid-morning nap was only 30 minutes long and her afternoon nap was about 5 minutes long, if not less. Moreover, never did a baby put up such a gallant and noble fight against sleep as Miss Lilybeth Mary did this afternoon at nap time. Right when she was on the verge of entering the land of the nod, she'd pop her big baby blues open and begin to coo frantically and loudly, as if to say, "No, I won't give up that easily!" In fact, here she is on the battlefront, giving it her all:

Needless to say, what a day it has been here. But Tom is home now, and I believe there is a bottle of wine in the fridge, and I think that I'm deserving of a little drop (and I do mean little since I'm still breastfeeding). And, it seems . . . she may have finally fallen asleep . . .
