Krazy Kinetic Kreativity

This weekend was the 32nd Port Townsend kinetic sculpture race, though it was the first race for LB & me.

According to the rules, a kinetic sculpture competing in the race has to be human-powered and able to travel through sand and water and uphills. As one of our friends explained, the race is an example of "organized chaos," and while some of the competitors worked for months on their creations, others hobbled theirs together at the last minute. Part of the fun was seeing how well the creations held up over the course of the race.

LB & I had a great start to the day, enjoying a little coffee and chocolate and the view.
I definitely enjoyed this view!

The pre-race parade featuring the kraken!
"The Race Like an Egyptian" sculpture.
The Banana Split.
This was LB's favorite sculpture. When she saw it, she said, "Hey! Give me a dollar!"

LB and her friend waited for the water race to begin.

LB squeezed in to get a view.

People received the yellow tags for committing "infractions." This woman's infraction was "Making the parade special."
The kraken moved in to attack the sculptures during the race.
Watch out, Dragon!

LB, her friend, and a huge bird.
After the race, we stopped for a hotdog, and . . .
some ice cream.
Cool seats.

And ended the day with a visit to a friend's art show.
